At PhotoPlus Expo this year, one of the mainstays did not have a booth. In the past, there have been lines of folks waiting to hand over the dough for his products, which have become standards in the industry. You will need more than a camera.

You will need a light tent and a couple of good 500 watt lamps to shoot the jewelry.

You will need some kind of background stand to hang your backgrounds where the model will pose as well as some lighting necessary to light the clothing and model. Key and fill light for them and a couple of background lights for the background.

Now for the camera you need.

For shooting the jewelry, a good P&S camera would do fine, but when you add shooting models, you will need to invest in at least an entry level DSLR and lens like a 24-70 mm f/2.8 (the lens will cost about twice what the camera body does)

A good tripod is also part of the “studio” equipment you will need when shooting the jewelry (whether you are using a P&S camera or DSLR)

You will need to sit down and make a capital investment budget and then with that and the cost of your inventory and other start up costs, take it and your business and marketing plan to the bank for funding.
